FinOps Framework

Apply FinOps across every technology category.

A FinOps Scope is a decision context, not an infrastructure boundary. The FinOps Framework names seven technology categories that a Scope may span.

Where FinOps reaches

Technology categories set the frame for a Scope.

Each category below follows the FinOps Framework. A practice can combine categories around a product, cost center, environment, or other business decision.

Public Cloud

Cloud provider billing and usage data support the core visibility, allocation, and optimization work of a FinOps practice.

AI

AI spending can cross cloud, SaaS, data, and private infrastructure, requiring cost and value decisions that account for that mix.

SaaS

Subscription software brings its own purchasing, usage, allocation, and renewal decisions into the FinOps practice.

Data Platform

Data platform usage, jobs, queries, and storage create cost and value decisions that need the same FinOps discipline.

Private Cloud

Private infrastructure can share ownership and allocation questions with public cloud while using different cost and usage data.

Licenses

Software licenses and SaaS terms affect total cost, allocation, usage decisions, and compliance risk.

Data Center

On-premises data center capacity can sit within the same decision context as cloud and other technology spending.
